Commitment
Company members follow a rigorous training schedule and learn what it means to show up — for themselves, for their teammates, and for the work.

The AYDC is The King Centre's competitive team — a group of dedicated dancers who train across ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, lyrical, and acro, competing regionally and nationally throughout the year.
With Competitive, Intermediate, and Mini companies, there's a place for serious dancers at every stage of their journey. Members can audition to compete in one style or many — the invitation is to grow, not to prove.
The AYDC is part of the New Jersey Foundation for Dance and Theatre Arts, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to education and creative expression in dance and theatre — and to spreading community awareness of the performing arts.

Our philosophy
Being part of a company teaches self-confidence, poise, and determination — and, just as importantly, commitment, communication, and how to lift up the people around you. The relationships and lessons a dancer takes from the AYDC last a lifetime.
One more thing: along the way, we become better dancers and performers, too. And yes, sometimes we win.
From the season

From a company family
“The AYDC gave our daughter more than technique. She's found her people, her confidence, and a place that pushes her to be better without ever losing the joy of dancing.”
Company members follow a rigorous training schedule and learn what it means to show up — for themselves, for their teammates, and for the work.
Each season brings new choreography, new styles, and new milestones. Dancers learn to set intentions, measure growth, and celebrate progress over perfection.
From choreography sessions to travel, the AYDC is a family. Members build self-confidence, communication, and lifelong friendships in a positive environment.

A year with the AYDC
Four to six regional competitions and one to two nationals each season — across New Jersey and, at times, the tri-state area and beyond. Travel and hotel details are provided for every event.
Beyond competition, members perform in The Nutcracker, theatrical productions, our annual recital, local events, and the Company Showcase — becoming well-rounded, eclectic performers.
Members attend seasonal intensives, including a week-long summer ballet intensive and a pre-nationals intensive, sharpening technique alongside guest teachers and choreographers.
Team-building events, a peer mentoring program, and a supportive parent community make the AYDC as much about belonging as it is about the stage.
We're always looking for new teammates and friends. Dancers ages 5 to 18 are welcome to audition — no prior King Centre experience required. Auditions are typically held during the summer, and our teachers also recommend current students throughout the season.
